I’m an amateur photograph trying to get the most fun out of his Sony DSC-T5 point-and-shoot camera. Recently I’ve been focussing on spherical panoramas and Escheresque spirals. So far I’ve been pretty happy with what it’s possible to do with a point-and-shoot camera, although I’m starting to grow a list of features I wish I could use (mainly: long exposures, multiple shots with same exposure, stabilizer). When I grow up, I want to buy a real camera, and by then I hope I’ll have figured when focal and aperture mean (I’m only half joking here: since I don’t have control over these parameters, I don’t know how they affect the picture).

Quality Graphic design is always welcome at fitacola.

Dear you, my name is Timo Gaessner and I am running this independent Graphic Design Studio called 123buero™; consulting, developing and realizing contemporary projects.

My work is based on typographical solutions – in addition, I design or modify fonts
that I apply to my jobs. Sometimes I even finish fonts so they can be purchased and used by
other designers.

Julian Montague presents The Stray Shopping Cart Project.

Over the last several decades, the stray shopping cart has quietly become an integral part of the urban and suburban landscapes of the industrialized world. To the average person, the stray shopping cart is most often thought of as a signifier of urban blight or as an indicator of a consumer society gone too far. Unfortunately, the acceptance of these oversimplified designations has discouraged any serious examination of the stray shopping cart phenomenon.

Until now, the major obstacle that has prevented people from thinking critically about stray shopping carts has been that we have not had any formalized language to differentiate one shopping cart from another.

Besides making good graphic design, Julian also has this interesting project consisting in insect drawings, amongst other stuff.

ADIDAS ORIGINALS and FOOT LOCKER gathered over the last months some of the best seven graffiti artists in the world SKORE (UK), CAN2/ATOM (GER), SILOETTE (US), RIME (US), SCIEN (FR), SMART (IT)) to work together on a fresh concept - a collection of footwear, clothing and accessories that takes their artwork from the sketchbook to the streets.
The result is the transformation of a rolling masterpiece of graffiti artwork originally applied to a subway carriage, running from end to end, into a graffiti-based streetwear collection.

endtoent2.jpgendtoent3.jpgendtoent4.jpgendtoent5.jpg

Over a period of three days, the chosen 7 artists worked day and night, in a custom-built environment, to create the artwork for this distinctive collection. In gathering the artists together under one roof, this approach created a new process in developing graffiti-based product.
Furthermore, ADIDAS ORIGINALS and FOOT LOCKER documented the process allowing the viewer to see this unique project from start to finish ? providing a rare insight into the skills of the seven graffiti artists.
The collection launches in March ‘07 with the “All City and the Burner Collections”, made up of signature clothing and footwear designed by each artist, showcasing their own individual talents and styles.

Mouneer Al-Shaarani’s works are surely an inspiring source for graphic designers and typography lovers.

Mouneer Al-Shaarani’s arabic lettering experince is different and he is unlike many calligraphers who present and repeat traditional calligraphy in an upgraded from Al Shaarani’s research focuses upon introducing innovative works that respond to modern aesthetic requirments and, at the same time, keep intouch with, and form an extension of our calligraphic heritage. Al Shaarani has not taken our tradition as untochable sacred heritage. nor as an integrated on ewith no room to add or omit. He shapes his work according to graphic requirment of latest formations. Al Shaarani strictly adheres to the spirit of calligraphy in his omissions and additions.
He trends to transform arabic calligraphy into modern piece of art that is liberalised from old sanctities, he refrains from using stretched statments o rekiance on others, which remind us of the old days of laziness and depression, rather, he selects statments that convey meaningful messages and stimulating potentials and innovations. To consolidate his penetration of traditional sanctities, he resorts to using various colors with the intention of emphasising his departure from the closed circle of earlier artists.

Cool (KOOL) + Por(TUGA)l. Found this while ago at myspace and I though that it was once again, another hip-hop group just like any other.. But NO, he’s a lone producer from Portugal. I’m addicted to the beats and samples, no MC’S. Their fat beats combine with samples based on the Portuguese culture and music, also using traditional Portuguese instruments. Downtempo style, very relaxing and inspiring, still Hip-Hop. Very KOOL!

The Knife’s Silent Shout wiped the floor with the competition on 31st January at Sweden’s version of the Grammy Awards, the Grammis. The noir-electro duo took home the Best Artist, Composer, Album, Producer, DVD, and Group of the Year awards– six altogether. But, of course, being the Knife, they couldn’t just show up and thank their mom and first of all God, their creator, who made all of this possible. Instead? They had some friends of theirs send in this bizarre acceptance video. Although they aren’t wearing masks, video and audio effects are used to obscure their appearance, and to make them look pretty horrifying. (And not in a Courtney Love way.)

The video is in Swedish, but according to YouTube user sumsaR2, the band’s friends discuss normal stuff like the Knife having gone on tour, meeting fans from around the world.

arco07.jpg

All the info needed for the fair is here. (pdf)

After commemorating its 25th anniversary in February 2006, the International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid, ARCO, has consolidated its position as one of the world’s leading events for contemporary visual arts. Its international prestige, together with Madrid’s cultural appeal, turn the fair into an annual focus of attention for galleries, artists, art critics, curators, museum managers, experts and art experts worldwide. A large market platform with a repercussion borne out by the many sales it generates, as well as other figures registered: 200,000 visitors, 3000 accredited journalists, and over 4000 press clippings.

In 2007, ARCO begins a new phase, with a project combining continuity with the necessary innovation to face the demands of the contemporary art scene. A project inheriting an excellent reputation, and an enviable starting point from which to take on the new challenges opposed by the art market, and to responds to issues like the growth of collecting in Spain, the consolidation of ARCO as a marketplace, and the increasing competitiveness of international art fairs.
