The Wooster Collective recently featured video of a piece of street scultpure by Joshua Allen Harris. It could be describe as kinetic pneumatic art, and features an inanimate pile of material attached to a subway grate. When a train passes in the tunnel beneath the grate, the upward flow of displaced air fills the material and produces a medium-sized bear. The continued flow of air makes it appear as if the bear is actually animated, like it’s shaking off some arctic water. When the train is gone, the bear retreats to its former state of hibernation, waiting for the next train so it can rise again.

Fecal Face Dot Gallery, an extension of the popular San Francisco-based art and culture website Fecalface.com, opens “Out-Of-Towners,” the second show in the galleries two-show opening series. Following the success of the galleries inaugural show “Welcome Home,” “Out-Of-Towners” is a collection of works by site favorites hailing from Los Angeles to Istanbul. “There’s a lot of work by a lot of talented people out there,” says John Trippe, founder and curator of FecalFace.com, “but you can only get so much by viewing work online. I’m excited to merge what we’ve been doing online since 2000 into the vibrant art scene here in San Francisco.”

This was in due to be posted last week, but I just forgot to unwrap it from my drafts, so for those who missed the happening held in Rome, by Mad-hatter artist Graziano Cecchini who has struck again. He released 500,000 brightly colored plastic balls Wednesday from the top of the Spanish Steps in Rome.
The balls, similar to the ones you can jump into at a Chuck E. Cheese pizza parlor, “represented a lie told by a politician,” Cecchini told the Italian press.
The stunt cost Cecchini close to $30,000. Excited tourists grabbed the balls as artistic mementos, while Italian police proceeded to arrest Cecchini. Look for overpriced plastic balls on eBay.
He was the same public-art prankster who filled the Trevi Fountain in Rome with blood-red dye last October.

Eduard Bezembinder has some nice collages and a great collection of ‘illustrated links’ in his weblog: weblog.bezembinder.nl.
Chris Dent is a 22-year-old British illustrator and artist who explores the energy of urban street culture through densely informative drawings of cityscapes. Dent often captures his imagery with pen directly on paper, preventing any reworking and allowing the first mark-making instinct to dominate. The artist recently graduated from Camberwell College of Arts in London with a degree in illustration. Since his graduation, the young artist has been busy working on commissioned illustrations for Zoo York, Capitol Records and Swindle Magazine, among many others, and has also co-founded HYBRID BUNNY, a collective group of illustrators and designers. Dent has exhibited his work with the Subway Gallery and Notting Hill Arts Club, both in London.
