This movie, Madame Tutli-Putli, will definitely collect a lot of awards and prizes in the future… According to NFB, this 17′ minute movie has been 5 years in the making, so judging to the trailer, I can’t wait to see it. Via Drawn.
Madame Tutli-Putli boards the night train, weighed down with all her earthly possessions and the ghosts of her past.
She travels alone, facing both the kindness and menace of strangers. As day descends into dark, she finds herself caught up in a desperate metaphysical adventure. Adrift between real and imagined worlds, Madame Tutli-Putli confronts her demons and is drawn into an undertow of mystery and suspense.
The National Film Board of Canada presents a stunning, stop-motion animated film that takes the viewer on an exhilarating existential journey. The film introduces groundbreaking visual techniques and is supported by a haunting and original score. Painstaking care and craftsmanship in form and detail bring to life a fully imagined, tactile world unlike any you have seen.
Jungian thriller? Hitchcockian suspense? Artistic tour de force? The night train awaits you.

A few weeks ago, I was surprised while visiting my local news stand, to look at the price of a PRINT MAG, it was about 40€!! no lie! No I wonder where retailers and distributors get such percentage.
Today I was reading the regular newsletter from amazon, they are now offering a 6 issue subscription for only $37. I can save ± 80% if ordering through amazon. This is not easy advertising, a serious recommendation! Click the image to access the promotion (time limited).

The future of the internet radio is threatened, radios like pandora.com, or any other streaming service broadcasting is in danger due to a recent decision by the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington, DC, something that can affect negatively our daily life and many broadcasters, radio stations and radio dj’s that bring us new artists and joy every day.
Hi, it’s Tim from Pandora,
I’m writing today to ask for your help. The survival of Pandora and all of Internet radio is in jeopardy because of a recent decision by the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington, DC to almost triple the licensing fees for Internet radio sites like Pandora. The new royalty rates are irrationally high, more than four times what satellite radio pays and broadcast radio doesn’t pay these at all. Left unchanged, these new royalties will kill every Internet radio site, including Pandora.
In response to these new and unfair fees, we have formed the SaveNetRadio Coalition, a group that includes listeners, artists, labels and webcasters. I hope that you will consider joining us.
Please sign our petition urging your Congressional representative to act to save Internet radio: http://capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/issues/alert/?alertid=9631541
Please feel free to forward this link/email to your friends – the more petitioners we can get, the better.
Understand that we are fully supportive of paying royalties to the artists whose music we play, and have done so since our inception. As a former touring musician myself, I’m no stranger to the challenges facing working musicians. The issue we have with the recent ruling is that it puts the cost of streaming far out of the range of ANY webcaster’s business potential.
I hope you’ll take just a few minutes to sign our petition – it WILL make a difference. As a young industry, we do not have the lobbying power of the RIAA. You, our listeners, are by far our biggest and most influential allies.
As always, and now more than ever, thank you for your support.
-Tim Westergren

Sensitive, sexy, poetic, a bucolic poetry to my eyes. Tethereto’s photos are almost always described by her on a way every artistic photos should be. with poetry and imagination. This is a world to dive into and fall in love.

Mouneer Al-Shaarani’s arabic lettering experince is different and he is unlike many calligraphers who present and repeat traditional calligraphy in an upgraded from Al Shaarani’s research focuses upon introducing innovative works that respond to modern aesthetic requirments and, at the same time, keep intouch with, and form an extension of our calligraphic heritage. Al Shaarani has not taken our tradition as untochable sacred heritage. nor as an integrated on ewith no room to add or omit. He shapes his work according to graphic requirment of latest formations. Al Shaarani strictly adheres to the spirit of calligraphy in his omissions and additions.
He trends to transform arabic calligraphy into modern piece of art that is liberalised from old sanctities, he refrains from using stretched statments o rekiance on others, which remind us of the old days of laziness and depression, rather, he selects statments that convey meaningful messages and stimulating potentials and innovations. To consolidate his penetration of traditional sanctities, he resorts to using various colors with the intention of emphasising his departure from the closed circle of earlier artists.Yousef Abdelki, Artist
Arte Contemporaneo – ARCO – 26th Contemporary Art Fair Guest Country: Korea
Madrid, 15th-19th February 2007
Arte Contemporaneo – ARCO

After commemorating its 25th anniversary in February 2006, the International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid, ARCO, has consolidated its position as one of the worlds leading events for contemporary visual arts. Its international prestige, together with Madrids cultural appeal, turn the fair into an annual focus of attention for galleries, artists, art critics, curators, museum managers, experts and art experts worldwide. A large market platform with a repercussion borne out by the many sales it generates, as well as other figures registered: 200,000 visitors, 3000 accredited journalists, and over 4000 press clippings.
In 2007, ARCO begins a new phase, with a project combining continuity with the necessary innovation to face the demands of the contemporary art scene. A project inheriting an excellent reputation, and an enviable starting point from which to take on the new challenges opposed by the art market, and to responds to issues like the growth of collecting in Spain, the consolidation of ARCO as a marketplace, and the increasing competitiveness of international art fairs.
One of the leading figurative painters of his generation, Currin’s influences range from Italian and Northern Renaissance paintings to popular illustrations from the mid-20th century. Whether portraits of older women, buxom girls, nudes with elongated bodies, or group scenes of domestic life, his works are characterized by baroque gestures, loose brush strokes, unorthodox palettes, and detailed backgrounds that startle the viewer into a reconsideration of the tradition of painting. His “old master” techniques and individual style have earned him accolades from critics and collectors worldwide.

What really makes Currin’s work interestingand hard to dismissis the compelling weirdness of his imagery. He draws on an eclectic range of sources, both high and low, from ’60s girlie magazines like Modern Man to Tiepolo, Cranach, and Courbet. If you know your art history, it’s a lot of fun to parse the references. In his review of the Whitney show, for example, Kimmelman points out that while Nude on a Table immediately brings to mind Mantegna’s famous Dead Christ, the actual source is a more obscure painting of the same subject by Annibale Carracci. This art-historical guessing game may not add up to much in the end, but as Schjeldahl says in his review, “It is pleasant to know things.”

Joseph of Bookdesignreview (Nytimesbooks.blogspot.com) shares his favorite cover designs from 2006.

As Last year’s (2005) the 5 star’s Kanye West, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A., amongst other good ones were allover chosen to be the albums of the year, most likely if not in the first place, surely on the top 20’s of 2005 best, 2006 was, however in my point of view, a poor year in terms of quality, but the least ones chosen, are the proof that the artists and bands have still a lot to give and amaze in all genres and fusions, like the new born stars in the mainstream : Artic Monkeys, CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy), The Knife, Tv on the Radio, etc, as well as the established ones like Tom Yorke of Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers… Not to mention a lot more.
So, just for curiosity… I have been crawling, navigating and exploring around through many music websites, blogs, newspapers, etc, to witness which albums were voted the best of 2006… My conclusion: a diverse and wide range of choices, still there were some listed in all (or most of all) tops. I haven’t heard some of these in full to fulfill my joys or to share a concrete and conscious opinion, so I can’t list and share my concrete critical opinion but just a personal taste + statistics to make my humble top 10 alive without any criticism or hype associated… and with no special order.
